Brief Biography of Dr. Queesha Tillman

Dr. Queesha Tillman is an award-winning executive education leader, author, speaker, and leadership strategist whose work sits at the intersection of leadership, culture, education, advocacy, and organizational transformation.
For more than two decades, she has dedicated her career to helping people and organizations recognize their potential, challenge limiting systems, and create environments where excellence can thrive. Her experience spans exceptional children’s education, mental health and human services, elementary through high school leadership, professional development, organizational improvement, and community advocacy.
Currently serving as Principal of Jack Britt High School in Cumberland County Schools, Dr. Tillman has built a career distinguished by her ability to transform culture, strengthen systems, develop people, and turn vision into measurable results. Previously, as Principal of Seventy-First Classical Middle School, she led the school to significant state and national recognition, including designation as a National Title I Distinguished School for closing achievement gaps and recognition as a North Carolina School to Watch.
But her leadership story began long before she entered the principal’s office.
Purpose Born from Personal Experience
When Dr. Tillman’s oldest son was diagnosed with severe autism as a toddler, her life—and ultimately her professional calling—changed.
Determined to better understand how to advocate for him and other children with disabilities, she became a licensed Exceptional Children’s educator serving students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. What began as a mother’s determination developed into a lifelong commitment to ensuring that children are recognized not simply for the challenges they face, but for the possibilities they possess.
That experience continues to shape her philosophy today: people flourish when they are seen, supported, challenged, and given genuine opportunities to succeed.
Her professional foundation also includes eight years as a Qualified Mental Health Professional, where she worked with children, adults, families, and communities throughout North Carolina. This combination of education, human services, mental health, and executive leadership gives Dr. Tillman a distinctive perspective on leading organizations while never losing sight of the people within them.
Leadership That Produces Impact
Throughout her career, Dr. Tillman has championed approaches centered on culture, relationships, equity, data-informed decision-making, professional learning, accountability, and courageous leadership.
She believes sustainable transformation happens when leaders move beyond simply managing organizations and intentionally develop the people, culture, and systems necessary for success.
Her influence extends beyond her own schools. Dr. Tillman serves as President of the Cumberland County Association of Principals and Assistant Principals and has contributed her leadership to professional, university, mentoring, and community organizations. She is also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
Her leadership has earned numerous recognitions, including selection as North Carolina’s representative for the National Association of Elementary School Principals’ National Outstanding Assistant Principal program. She has shared her expertise through podcasts and state and national conferences, engaging educators and leaders around topics including organizational culture, leadership development, equity, emotional intelligence, restorative practices, school transformation, and purpose-driven leadership.

Beyond her executive leadership, Dr. Tillman is committed to taking the lessons learned throughout her career beyond the walls of any single organization.
She is the author of Untapped Power: Black Women’s EQ Superpowers and Leadership Ascent and A Love That Shatters Barriers: A Mother’s Relentless Battle for Her Autistic Son, along with additional leadership and personal-development resources.
As a speaker and professional learning facilitator, she combines research, lived experience, practical strategy, authenticity, and storytelling to challenge audiences not simply to become better leaders—but to become more intentional ones.

Education & Professional Foundation
Dr. Tillman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Education from the University of Phoenix, a Ph.D. in Human Services with a specialization in Social and Community Services from Capella University, and a Master of School Administration from Fayetteville State University.
Today, she is expanding her work through keynote speaking, professional development, leadership strategy, writing, mentoring, and innovative education initiatives designed to rethink how we develop leaders and create learning environments for the next generation.
Her work represents the evolution of a career that began with advocacy for one child and grew into a mission to positively influence schools, leaders, organizations, and communities.
